Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog!
My name is Ursula Herrera. I am not a nutritionist but a concerned mother who has done extensive research and developed creative ways to provide healthy but enjoyable food options. I also share natural remedies, DIY ideas, hacks, activities, travels, and the latest tips for living a healthy family lifestyle.
About Me And My Family
I live in Miami Beach, Florida with my husband and my two beautiful children. I believe in the power of natural medicine and living a healthy lifestyle. Family is the most important thing to me so I also give ideas and motivation to become better people and live a better life. This blog is not about me but about my family and how I overcame difficult times by focusing on natural remedies, love and dedication.
Matias, my wonderful son, is the reason why I created this blog. He was born with a rare birth defect and he was unable to swallow. He had surgery on his second day of life to reconnect his esophagus and has trouble eating certain foods. If you want to read the full story, please see My Story-Esophageal Atresia.
It all started with sharing recipes my son could eat without problems. I am not a chef nor do I have many years of experience cooking. So, most of my recipes are very easy to prepare. I believe in cooking with fresh ingredients and try to avoid cans and boxes as much as possible. Our family saw the difference when we made the switch. We used to eat a lot of processed foods and now we feel better than ever. Most recipes, smoothies, fun food ideas and/or snacks are my own creations, but I occasionally share from other bloggers.
I believe that kids should eat the same food as adults. Creating these early food habits will teach kids to not only eat better and more variety of food, but also to share and enjoy time with the family.
At home, my kids, for the most part, eat everything we eat. There are certain things my son doesn’t accept yet and I have to present them in different ways. For example, he doesn’t like cauliflower florets but loves cauliflower nuggets! My husband and I also love the nuggets and they make a perfect side dish even if you don’t have children. And they are perfect for vegetarians!
Later on, I started writing about natural remedies. I discovered many ingredients that had powerful medicinal properties! I am now a huge believer in natural medicine. That doesn’t mean that I don’t also believe in modern medicine. I just prefer to look for a natural solution first. Just with FOOD we were able to overcome many problems like acid reflux and respiratory illnesses. Nutrition is very important for our overall health! Now a little about me and what I do.
I lived in Illinois for about 5 years then decided to move to Miami where I met my husband. I have a Master’s Degree from Northern Illinois University. I worked a full time job for many years but after my son was born, I wanted to stay at home more and start my blog.
I am a mom of two children, and I have to also get creative and entertain them. So, I also started writing about easy DIY ideas, hacks, activities and travel destinations for families. Little by little my blog became a lifestyle mom’s blog. And today I am very proud to say this is my full-time job.
Ok so now that you know a little about me, I would like to thank you for reading and visiting my website. My blog exists and grows because of you. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for following Creative Healthy Family. Thank you for your comments, likes, and shares. Thank you for liking my recipes, my DIYs, and my recommendations.
I would like you to know that I am also always looking for creative and healthy recipes, natural remedies, natural products and tips for living a healthy lifestyle. Feel free to reach out with questions, comments or ideas at: creativehealthyfamily@gmail.com
