The holiday season is always so crazy that it feels like we rarely have a moment to stop, breathe, and appreciate the good things in life. So today, I’m sharing some of my favorite quotes that remind us of what’s REALLY important during the holidays. Save them, print them, journal about them, or just keep them handy for moments when you’re feeling totally overwhelmed.
Quotes That Remind Us of What’s Really Important During the Holidays
Is anyone else in complete shock that it’s almost the holiday season already? I feel like I was JUST writing about last year’s New Years Resolutions five minutes ago, and now it’s almost time to think about this year’s list! I’m already getting stressed just thinking about it. Since I could really use a good reminder of the things that REALLY matter, I thought maybe you could, too. I hope these quotes inspire you as much as they do me. Aside from the first and last, they’re really in no particular order. Enjoy!
1. The most important things to remember…
I think this is a great one to start with! During the busy holiday season, it’s essential to prioritize self-care. This quote reminds us to take care of ourselves, spend quality time with loved ones, and not put too much pressure on being perfect. Pretty much all of the things that truly matter.
2. Surround yourself with positivity
While we can’t entirely avoid the people who stress us out, especially during the holidays, we CAN choose to spend more time with friends who bring out the best in us. Keep your circle small and surround yourself with people who make you feel good about, well, YOU.
3. Forgive each other before it’s too late
Speaking of family driving us nuts during the holidays, this quote is a good reminder that we don’t always have tomorrow to make things right. The holidays are as good a time as any to forgive your parents, cousins, siblings, and anyone else that you’ll regret not making things right with.
4. Appreciate your mom!
During the holiday rush, let’s not forget to appreciate the tireless efforts of mothers. Recognizing their hard work and expressing gratitude can make the season even more special.
5. Embrace the Power of Gratitude
This simple quote reminds us that gratitude is one of the most important things to remember during the holidays. Not only will it help us remember all that we have, studies show that expressing gratitude is actually good for your health, too.
6. Cultivating Thankfulness
Speaking of being thankful, this quote encourages us to create meaningful family traditions centered around gratitude. It’s a wonderful way to instill the value of kindness in the hearts of our children during the holiday season and beyond.
7. Appreciate your friends…
I don’t have to remind you that true friends are a treasure. This holiday season, let’s acknowledge and appreciate those who are always there to listen, support, and share our joys and sorrows.
8. …including your furry ones!
Our pets offer us unwavering companionship and love. Plus, dogs actually help us live longer! Seriously, it’s a scientific fact! So, if you have a dog (or a cat, or any pet really), spend a few minutes each day just sitting with them and appreciating the joy they bring into your life.
9. Show empathy towards others
Holidays can be challenging in many ways for many different people. This quote reminds us to offer support and empathy to those who may be going through difficult times, instead of dismissing their feelings.
10. Don’t judge others, you’re not walking in their shoes
Speaking of showing empathy for others, I really feel like this quote should go without saying. NO ONE deserves to be mocked. None of us ever has any real idea of what others are going through. You wouldn’t want someone judging you without knowing your story, right? So don’t do it to others.
11. Take time to realize how far you’ve come
Sometimes we get so overwhelmed thinking about how far we have to go that we forget to look back and see how far we’ve already come. Let it “click” for you. Be proud of yourself. Smile because you are on your way to being who you were always meant to be.
12.Enjoy your own company
In the midst of holiday hustle and bustle, it’s easy to get caught up in who’s inviting us to events or who’s including us in their plans. This quote reminds us that true happiness comes from within, and it’s okay if we’re not always in the spotlight. It also reminds us that if we learn to like being alone, we’ll never be lonely again.
13. Cherish the Moments Before They’re Gone
I saved this one for last because I think it’s reminds us of the ONE thing that truly matters the most: family. Kids grow up so quickly. Until we figure out how to freeze time, there’s really nothing we can do to slow them down. It’s just going to happen. You’ll blink and they’ll be graduating high school, going to college, getting married, and having kids of their own. The only thing you can really do is just make the most of every moment you have with them. Be present, be in the picture, and just be with them.
That sentiment really goes for everything during the holiday season (and the rest of the year, too). Just focus on being present in the moment as much as you can. Enjoy the time that you have with your loved ones. Yes, even the ones that drive you nuts! Be thankful every day and not just on Thanksgiving. Be kind to others. If you do those things, you’ll automatically focus on what matters most.
