After I purchased my box tops products I thought of a great idea for a fun game my son can play. Teaching kids about nutrition is important and I thought what about guessing what each product is made of. Playing this game will teach kids to know what they are actually eating, be informed about the ingredients, and let parents know if it is a healthy good choice for them. Fantastic!
Box Tops: Know What Your Product Is Made Of Game
What you will need to play is simply your General Mills® products and some pictures you can take from the internet showing what the product is made of, if you don’t have them at home.
If you are curious also read your labels. It is so important to learn how to read labels and be well informed. You can definitely tell whether a product is healthy if you just look at the ingredients’ list. Remember that the ingredient list on a food label is the listing of each ingredient in descending order of predominance. The ingredients used in the greatest amounts first, followed by descending order by those in smaller amounts.
Box Tops: Know What Your Product Is Made Of Game
Ok, let’s begin. We have three of our favorite Box Top items: Cherrios, Applesauce and Oatmeal Squares.
Cheerios
Looking at the label you see whole grains is the first ingredient. Great! Another plus is that it only has 1 gram of sugar per serving. Of all cereals, we prefer plain cheerios at home. A great way to start your day for breakfast or as a healthy snack for school. But what is your product made of and where does it come from? Oats: a nutrient-rich grain.
Applesauce
Applesauce is my son’s favorite snack. We chose the original flavor this time. Great for a quick snack at school or at home. Guessing where it comes from is pretty easy: apples! An apple a day keeps the doctor away!
Oatmeal Squares
Our favorite flavor at home is Peanut Butter. These are also great for breakfast or as snack. Be careful and make sure your school doesn’t have a peanut free policy if you plan on sending one for school. The top three ingredients are: whole grain oats, whole wheat flour and peanut butter. We already know about the oats so let them guess the flavor: peanuts!
It was so much fun playing this game. You can also let them know what each ingredient is good for and make sure they are aware where their food comes from. You will get them interested in reading labels and making good choices too.
