Genius Amazon Items to Keep You Cool on Hot Days
I know it’s so trite to talk about the weather, but wow, it’s crazy, isn’t it? Living in Miami, I’m pretty used to the heat. Although ironically, it’s cooler here than it is where my friends live way up north! Still, I know hotter days are ahead. It is, after all, only the first day of July!
Whether you’re stuck without central air conditioning, always on the go, or just want to save money, these gadgets, gear and other goodies from Amazon will help do the trick. Just one last note before we dive in: the links included below are affiliate links. I earn a small commission if you buy through them, but your cost stays the same. Now, let’s see what we can find to help you chill out…literally!
1. Sukeen Cooling Towel
They may not look like much, but these cooling towels work surprisingly well! I grabbed one on clearance a couple of years ago and use it all summer long. Basically, you wet them with cold water and wring them out. Then you drape them over your neck for instant “ahhhhh.” You can find them sold individually, but the 4-pack is actually a better value overall.
2. Hands Free Portable Neck Fan
Sure, it looks kind of funny, but the reviews on this neck fan are outstanding. Nearly 9,000 can’t be wrong about how well it works at cooling you down, right? I love it because when you’re not wearing it around your neck, you can stand it up pretty much anywhere. Plus, the lights make it fun for kids to wear.
3. Neck Cooling Tube
If the idea of walking around with a fan on your neck doesn’t really appeal to you, then maybe this is more your style. It’s filled with a non-toxic materials, including a gel created by NASA that maintains its cooling power for hours. The only downside is that you have to either leave it in ice water or in the freezer before using it. Not great if you need something to help keep you cool on the go.
4. O2COOL Deluxe Misting Fan
While this isn’t really practical to use, say, while sitting at your computer to do work, it’s great for outdoor use. Take it to the beach, park, or pretty much anywhere else. Just fill it up with cool water before you go! The only drawback: batteries aren’t included. So make sure you grab some before you hit the sweltering hot great outdoors.
5. Mubasel Gear Hydration Backpack
Hydration backpacks are a must for hikers, and this one is among the most affordable non-toxic options I’ve found. It’s made with a BPA-free bladder that keeps your water cool for hours. I’m sure I don’t need to remind you that staying hydrated helps keep you cool AND healthy during the summer. Plus, it’s super lightweight, so the pack itself won’t make you hotter as you hike. Others that I looked at were so bulky I think I’d probably get heat stroke just wearing them for five minutes!
6. Cooling Mat for Pets
If you have pets, this is a must for helping keep them cool all summer long. HOWEVER, even if you don’t have a 4-legged friend, I still recommend grabbing one. The Large is just right for toddlers, and the XL is perfect to use as a picnic mat on a hot summer day. Heck, you can even use it at the beach. The design is neutral enough that no one will know you’re basically sitting on a dog mat!
7. Cooling Bamboo Blankets for Hot Sleepers
If you absolutely can’t sleep without some sort of blanket on you (I know a few people who really need that feeling of security they provide), then a cooling bamboo blanket is the way to go. It’s made with natural bamboo materials, making it a good option for people with sensitive skin. Plus, it comes in 4 sizes and a ton of colors that will match any bedroom décor.
8. Carats Car Seat Cooler for Baby
If you’re traveling with tiny tots, then these seat coolers are a must. You just unfold this and pop it on the seat when you’re done running errands (or during stops along the way), and it’ll keep it from heating up (and hurting your baby’s delicate skin). Since you don’t use them when your baby is actually IN the seat, they’re safe for any age.
9. Chill Pal 12 in 1 Multi Style Cooling Neck Gaiter
If neck gaiters aren’t really you’re thing, don’t worry; the Chill Pal is so much more. Sure, you can wear it around your neck, but you can also use it as a balaclava, headband, bandana, face cover, hair cover, and more. In other words, it’s versatile enough that anyone can find a way to use it, even if gaiters really aren’t your style. I like that you can use it as a face covering, too. While most places dropped the mask mandate, if you still need to wear one, you might as well be comfortable!
10. ESARORA Ice Roller
Okay, so this won’t keep you cool all day long, but it’s still one of my favorite products for hot days, especially if you suffer from migraines. Keep it in your freezer (it doesn’t take up much space, I promise). Then, when the heat inevitably triggers a headache, grab it and roll it over your temples, forehead and back of your neck. It may not knock out a killer migraine, but it still feels great! It’s also wonderful for those mornings when you wake up looking (and feeling) all puffy.
11. HyperChiller Maxi-Matic Patented Instant Coffee/Beverage Cooler
On a hot summer day, there’s really nothing more refreshing than a delicious glass of homemade iced tea or coffee. The problem? If you’re brewing from tea bags or ground coffee, you either need to make it ahead of time or put so much ice in it to cool it down that you end up with mildly flavored water. The HyperChiller is a game-changer. It cools down super-hot beverages in just about a minute. When you’re done, make sure you put it back in the freezer so it’s ready to go the next time you need it.
12. Glacier Tek Sports Cool Vest
Okay, so this is definitely a MAJOR luxury item, but if you do a lot of hiking during the hot summer, it could be a great investment. The vest is designed to stay at a cool 59 degrees (F) for about 2.5 hours even when it’s 100 degrees outside. Plus, the non-toxic cooling packs “recharge” after just 20 minutes in ice water. Like I said, major splurge, but the people who have bought it so far LOVE it.
13. Sunnybag Leaf Pro Solar Charger
Technically this one doesn’t keep you cool on its own, but it can power pretty much anything that connects via USB charger. So, you could easily use it to recharge, say, a portable fan! Of course, it also charges things like phones, tablets, and even power banks. So, you can take it on the go to the beach, pool, or anywhere else that helps you chill out this summer. I have it and absolutely love it. I take it everywhere I go!
14. Cute Ice Packs for Kids
These adorable little booboo packs aren’t just for ouchies. Pop them in the freezer (or keep them in your cooler at the beach) for a few minutes, then use them to cool down your too-hot-tot. They’re made with medical-grade plastic and are completely non-toxic. I love them because they have a soft cover. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that they’re super cute!
15. Elitehood Ice Cold Packs
Sure, they look old-fashioned (they remind me of something you’d see a cartoon character holding to his head after someone drops an anvil on him), but these things actually work really well at helping keep you cool. You don’t even have to fill them with ice. Very cold water does the trick, too. Mine stay cool for at least an hour. I fill mine up before I’m ready to lounge around a bit. I just kind of plop it on my shoulders. I know it sounds weird, but just having that cooling sensation on my shoulder helps the rest of me cool down. Try it and you’ll see what I mean.
16. Avalon Organics Peppermint Body Lotion
Peppermint lotion is positively amazing when it comes to helping you chill out a bit AND making you feel more energized. It’s sooooo soothing on achy feet and muscles, too. I love this one by Avalon because it’s made with natural organic ingredients. Plus, it’s vegan and cruelty-free. FYI, you can also just make your own cooling lotion. Just add a few drops of peppermint essential oil to your favorite moisturizer.
17. Cooling Pillowcases
Chill out at night by swapping out your regular pillowcases with these. They’re designed with special Arc-Chill Cooling Fibers so they stay cool longer (no pillowcase stays chilled all night, unfortunately). I recommend sticking them in front of your AC, a fan, or even in a plastic bag in the fridge before bedtime. You get two in a pack and they’re actually pretty affordable compared to other cooling pillowcases.
18. NatraCure Cold Therapy Socks
While socks are usually the last thing you want to put on when your feet are already sweaty these just might be the exception. They’re designed for therapeutic purposes to help people with neuropathy pain, plantar fasciitis, and edema. However, they also work brilliantly at just plain chilling out those hot toes. They are a bit pricey compared to other cooling socks, but they also have the best overall ratings.
19. 3-IN-1 Evaporative Air Cooler
This one is a bit on the pricey side, but nowhere near as expensive as a real portable air conditioner (see the last item on this list). It’s one of the few evaporative air coolers with a decent number of good reviews (others only have a handful of them, which often makes me leery about a product). I love that it’s bladeless, so you don’t have to worry about your toddlers sticking their fingers in it (or your dog wagging his tail too close to it). It’s really only ideal for places with dry heat since it works by adding humidity into the air around you (too little humidity is just as bad as too much).
20. Portable Air Conditioner
I’m not going to mince words this thing is EXPENSIVE. It’s by far the biggest splurge on the list, and really only something you’d buy if your house is so hot that you can barely even function AND you can’t use a window-mounted unit (if your windows swing out instead of slide up, for example). Yes, there are cheaper ones, but honestly, this one is the only option that actually has mostly good reviews (4.5 stars with over 2500 ratings). Others barely hit 3 stars. So, it could be worth the investment.
I have a feeling that this summer is going to be a scorching hot one! So, grab a few of these awesome items to keep you cool before the next wave hits! I’d start with the most affordable and versatile- like the cooling towels and fans. The last few are definitely “luxury” items, but they’re worth it if you don’t have AC and can’t cool down any other way.
