I know it’s so trite to talk about the weather, but wow, it’s crazy, isn’t it?  Living in Miami, I’m pretty used to the heat. Although ironically, it’s cooler here than it is where my friends live way up north! Still, I know hotter days are ahead. It is, after all, only the first day of July!

Whether you’re stuck without central air conditioning, always on the go, or just want to save money, these gadgets, gear and other goodies from Amazon will help do the trick. They may not look like much, but these cooling towels work surprisingly well! I grabbed one on clearance a couple of years ago and use it all summer long. Basically, you wet them with cold water and wring them out. Then you drape them over your neck for instant “ahhhhh.” You can find them sold individually, but the 4-pack is actually a better value overall.

2. Hands Free Portable Neck Fan

Sure, it looks kind of funny, but the reviews on this neck fan are outstanding. Nearly 9,000 can’t be wrong about how well it works at cooling you down, right? I love it because when you’re not wearing it around your neck, you can stand it up pretty much anywhere. Plus, the lights make it fun for kids to wear.

If you have pets, this is a must for helping keep them cool all summer long. HOWEVER, even if you don’t have a 4-legged friend, I still recommend grabbing one. The Large is just right for toddlers, and the XL is perfect to use as a picnic mat on a hot summer day. Heck, you can even use it at the beach. These adorable little booboo packs aren’t just for ouchies. Pop them in the freezer (or keep them in your cooler at the beach) for a few minutes, then use them to cool down your too-hot-tot. They’re made with medical-grade plastic and are completely non-toxic. I love them because they have a soft cover. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that they’re super cute!

15. Elitehood Ice Cold Packs

Sure, they look old-fashioned (they remind me of something you’d see a cartoon character holding to his head after someone drops an anvil on him), but these things actually work really well at helping keep you cool. You don’t even have to fill them with ice. Very cold water does the trick, too. Mine stay cool for at least an hour. I fill mine up before I’m ready to lounge around a bit. I just kind of plop it on my shoulders. I know it sounds weird, but just having that cooling sensation on my shoulder helps the rest of me cool down. Try it and you’ll see what I mean.

Peppermint lotion is positively amazing when it comes to helping you chill out a bit AND making you feel more energized. It’s sooooo soothing on achy feet and muscles, too. I love that it’s bladeless, so you don’t have to worry about your toddlers sticking their fingers in it (or your dog wagging his tail too close to it). It’s really only ideal for places with dry heat since it works by adding humidity into the air around you (too little humidity is just as bad as too much).

20. Portable Air Conditioner

I’m not going to mince words this thing is EXPENSIVE. It’s by far the biggest splurge on the list, and really only something you’d buy if your house is so hot that you can barely even function AND you can’t use a window-mounted unit (if your windows swing out instead of slide up, for example). Yes, there are cheaper ones, but honestly, this one is the only option that actually has mostly good reviews (4.5 stars with over 2500 ratings). Others barely hit 3 stars. So, it could be worth the investment.

I have a feeling that this summer is going to be a scorching hot one! So, grab a few of these awesome items to keep you cool before the next wave hits! I’d start with the most affordable and versatile- like the cooling towels and fans. The last few are definitely “luxury” items, but they’re worth it if you don’t have AC and can’t cool down any other way.
