Sneak those extra greens into your families diet without them even knowing it! I usually make my pesto with just spinach and basil but decided to throw in a hass avocado for extra creaminess. My kids loved this Super Green Spinach Avocado Basil Raw Pesto recipe and I am happy they are eating real food made with fresh ingredients.

The preparation is simple: just blend all the ingredients and you are done. A high speed blender is recommended. Raw, nutrient intact ingredients that will bring lots of health benefits to you and your family. I make pesto for my kids once a week and the key to a flavorful pesto is to add lots of greens. Just make sure you add them little by little, with some drops of olive oil to form a nice sauce. The avocado will give it an extra creamy texture.
I wanted to substitute parmesan cheese for nutritional yeast this time and make it vegan. I was really curious to try it and heard it was delicious. I am really in love with the results. If you prefer, just use regular grated parmesan cheese or leave it out of the recipe if you don’t want to have that “cheesy” flavor.
Nutritional Yeast comes in both powdered and flaked forms ( I used the flakes),and tastes nutty and cheesy. Many vegans use it as a cheese flavoring substitute, adding it to gravies, sauces, and pasta dishes.
Nutritional yeast is essentially just yeast (the kind that helps bread rise) that has been deactivated. Once the yeast has grown, it is killed (deactived) by heat and then crumbled into flake or powdered form. You can find nutritional yeast in most health food stores, or online here: Bob’s Red Mill Large Flake Nutritional Yeast.
Nutritional Yeast is an excellent source of protein, just 2 tablespoons = 9 grams. It contains essential amino acids and it’s full of vitamins, especially B-complex vitamins. Nutritional yeast is low in fat and sodium. It is also an excellent source of fiber and folic acid. Oh, and it is gluten free.
My Super Green Spinach Avocado Basil Raw Pesto tastes a little cheesy and just perfect. I didn’t want to add nuts so my son can take the leftovers to school. They have a pretty strict nut free policy. Nut free, dairy free, delicious and wonderful healthy Super Green Spinach Avocado Basil Raw Pesto recipe.
