I just got home from filling up my Primo® water bottle and my kids can’t wait for me to set it back up so they can use it. They’re in love with the Smart Touch buttons! I don’t mind, though, because it means they’re drinking more water. Take a look at how easy it was to refill (so easy, my son could do it!), then read on to learn more about why the Primo water dispenser has become such an indispensable part of our home.
Refilling the Primo water bottle was surprisingly easy! After using the store locator to find a refill station, I just headed to my local Whole Foods about five minutes from my house. I love shopping there because it’s a smaller store. The people are always so nice and there’s always plenty of parking. They don’t have an outdoor refill station, but it was easy enough to just grab a cart and go inside. Plus, they keep other supplies next to the station, like full and empty bottles and reusable water tumblers. Super convenient!
My favorite part of the experience, though, is how incredibly simple it is to actually replace the bottle in my Primo Smart Touch Deluxe Bottom Loading Water Dispenser. If you’ve ever struggled with getting 5-gallon bottles onto a top-loading dispenser before, you’re going to love this. Just pop off the non-spill cap, put the “probe” into the bottle, and slide it in place. Seriously, that’s all there is to it.
I actually chose the Bottom Loader dispenser for that very reason- how easy it is to reload. Plus, I love how clean and modern it looks. Of course, those aren’t the only reasons why the Primo Water dispenser is so indispensable in our home. Let’s take a look at some of the other reasons why we love it.
What Else Makes the Primo Water Dispenser So Indispensable?
I’ll spare you the long lesson on how water is the best thing to drink and how it’s especially a million times better than diet beverages. I’m sure by now you know how important it is to your body, and how it should be every family’s top priority. What you may not know, though, is how hard it is to get good water from your tap, your fridge filter or even from disposable bottles.
Why is it so hard to get quality water from your tap?
Want to hear something scary? A study led by an EPA research chemist found traces of 18 “unregulated chemicals” in one-third of all the US drinking water that they tested. Granted, it was a small sampling- only 25 water utility companies volunteered to have their water tested. Other studies have found everything from pharmaceutical drugs to cyanide (cyanide!!) in our drinking water.
Even if you’re lucky enough to have tap water that passes all the most rigorous chemical tests, it could have other issues. A friend has a well that delivers “safe” water, but with a catch- it tastes like rotten eggs! Gross, right? I know I couldn’t stand drinking that, how about you? Personally, I prefer my family to drink the purest water possible, and that includes pure-tasting.
Fridge filters only “reduce” certain chemicals, not eliminate them
Maybe you’re thinking, “Well, I have a fridge filter, so I don’t need anything else.” You may want to think again! Chances are, your refrigerator water dispenser only uses a carbon filter (most do). While that’s great for removing odors and some chemicals from your drinking water, it can’t eliminate everything. In fact, it can leave behind some of the nastier things. If you look at the water report for your fridge filter, you’ll find that it only reduces certain chemicals, like lead and mercury. I don’t know about you, but a “reduced” amount of deadly chemicals isn’t good enough for me and my family.
On the other hand, if you look at the Primo Water Quality Report, you’ll see “ND” almost straight down the line. That means “not detected,” in case you’re wondering. All of Primo Self-Service Refill Water Stations use carbon filters plus reverse osmosis and ultraviolet sterilization. So, it’s really as clean as you can get!
Even bottled water has its problems
At this point perhaps you’re saying to yourself, “Okay, fine, then I’ll just buy bottled water!” Not so fast, my friend. Bottled water is okay for emergencies, like if you’re out and realize you forgot your reusable water bottle. Just make sure you’re choosing a BPA-free brand.
However, given that over a million bottles of water are bought every single minute and we only recycle about 9% of them (according to National Geographic), it’s not really the best “everyday” solution. All of that plastic takes a millennium to biodegrade and way too much of it winds up in the ocean. Plus, some bottled water is just as bad as tap water once you factor in all the chemicals that leach into it from the plastic.
Primo, on the other hand, uses BPA-free materials to make their refillable bottles, and they’re designed to last through 40 uses (on average). That’s 200 gallons total. Do the math. The average bottle of water holds 16oz, so one 5-gallon bottle holds the equivalent of 40 bottles. Over its lifetime, that adds up to 1,600 bottles. It’s not just a major savings for the planet, but for you, too.
Primo Water Dispensers are easy to set up and won’t clutter your home
The really nice thing about the Primo Smart Touch Deluxe Bottom Loading Water Dispenser- it has a fairly low “profile,” meaning it’s not clunky or bulky. In fact, the base is only 12.2” wide and 14.8” deep. So, if you have just over about 1.5 feet of level floor space (so you can leave 4” of clearance on all sides), you have room for it.
I set mine up in my eat-in kitchen. We have a small table and bench next to my kitchen where we eat every single day as a family for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s also my “nook” where I read and work. In other words, we spend a whole lot of time there. My Primo water dispenser is right there for easy access and where my kids can freely get water whenever they need to.
How Primo Got My Kids to Drink More Water
In fact, my kids drink more water now just because they love using the Smart Touch and can do it on their own. My 4-year-old daughter is especially thrilled by this. It makes getting hot, cold or cool water as easy as touching a button. As you can see from the pictures, she loves pushing that button! It may sound silly, saying that a simple button can help kids drink more water, but it’s all about empowerment. Easy-to-use controls mean she can do it herself, and if you’ve ever parented a 4-year-old, you know just how important that is to them! If you have a toddler, though, don’t worry; you can set up the “lockout function” to keep them from dispensing water.
The Primo Water Dispenser truly is a “primo” solution!
Bottom line, I wanted to find a solution so that my family could drink the best quality water possible but that was also easy to use, and this is definitely it. I love the convenience of refilling the Primo water bottles, the simplicity of replacing them in the machine, and how easy the dispenser is to use. Most important of all, I love how great tasting the water is.
