Health benefits of eating quinoa
Quinoa is really a superfood and contains more protein than any other grain, and is higher in unsaturated fats and lower in carbohydrates than most grains and is a very good source of calcium, iron, phosphorous, B vitamins, and vitamin E. We usually think of quinoa as a grain, but it is actually the seed of a plant that, as its scientific name Chenopodium quinoa reflects, is related to beets, chard and spinach.
Quinoa is a highly nutritious, naturally gluten-free and packed with protein, fiber, and essential nutrients, making it a versatile staple for improved heart health and digestion. Quinoa is also a complete protein containing all nine essential amino acids, it supports muscle maintenance and metabolic function while offering anti-inflammatory properties through antioxidants like quercetin.
A single cup of cooked quinoa contains roughly 8 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber, making it a “nutrient-dense” addition to a balanced diet.Adding quinoa to your meals is an excellent idea. It tastes amazing plus your health will improve if you switch to better ingredients. Remember, it all starts at home with healthy habits!
The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has officially declared that the year 2013 be recognized as “The International Year of the Quinoa.” Proposed by the government of Bolivia and receiving strong support from many Central and South American countries, quinoa has now been singled out by the FAO as a food with “high nutritive value,” impressive biodiversity, and an important role to play in the achievement of food security worldwide.
Again, quinoa is a fantastic source of protein, manganese, folate, zinc and fiber! Yes, sometimes quinoa can be a bit expensive but if you shop smart you will find some deals and it will be worth it.
