When it comes to the meaning of life, there’s no single answer to why we’re here. It’s different for everyone and we all have to figure it out for ourselves. I can’t tell you how to do that, but I can give you some quotes to inspire you to find your own meaning!
Inspirational Quotes That Show Us the True Meaning of Life
We’re all looking for the meaning of life, aren’t we? Maybe that’s the problem. We’re looking for THE meaning, when in fact there are MANY of them. These inspirational quotes may not give you THE answer to why we’re here, but they definitely help me figure out my own true purpose.
There isn’t one big cosmic meaning
“There is not one big cosmic meaning for all; there is only the meaning we each give to our life, an individual meaning, an individual plot, like an individual novel, a book for each person.” ― Anaïs Nin
We’re all writing our own stories, so we each need to decide what we want OUR lives to mean.
Take this one opportunity to create meaning
We only get ONE story, one life, so use it wisely. Don’t spend it trying to find meaning. CREATE your own meaning.
Live a life full of love
At the end of life, what really matters is not what we bought, but what we built; not what we got, but what we shared; not our competence, but our character; not our success, but our significance. Live a life that matters. Live a life of love.
As long as you’re living a life of love, you’re living a life that matters. So, above all else, LOVE.
Love no matter what
Don’t just love, love unconditionally. Love with your whole heart. Love no matter what, and not just “because.”
Be beautiful on the inside
The only thing I’d change about that quote is the “as we grow old” part. True beauty ALWAYS comes from within, no matter how old you are.
Be kind
Sometimes, a simple kind word can change someone’s entire life.
Care for others
Even the smallest acts of kindness can make someone’s day. In turn, they could go on to make someone else’s day, and so on and on until that one act spreads around the entire world.
It’s the rising after a fall that is our greatest glory
Life isn’t about never failing or falling, it’s about getting back up after a fall.
Forgive yourself for your mistakes
Your mistakes don’t define you. They don’t make you a bad person. Forgive yourself for your wrong choices, then move on and try to make better ones in the future.
Enjoy the little things in life
As I’ve said before, life is about a million little moments. Enjoy each and every one of them.
Don’t waste time living someone else’s life
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” ~ Steve Jobs
Don’t worry about what others think or say. Just live the life you want. Find the courage to go after your dreams.
Keep moving and you’ll find your balance again
No matter what, just keep moving. You’ll find your balance again. This is definitely some of the best advice I’ve ever gotten.
Don’t wait until tomorrow to improve the world
You don’t have to wait to start making this world a better place. You just need to start.
Spend less time worrying
Think about all of the time you spent worrying about something, only to have everything work out just fine. You could have spent that time doing something that brings you joy instead!
Prepare for the worst, then improve it
“First ask yourself: What is the worst that can happen? Then prepare to accept it. Then proceed to improve on the worst.” ~ Dale Carnegie
Instead of worrying non-stop, just decide what the worst-case scenario is. Make a plan for it. Then figure out what you need to do to avoid it. Even if the worst does happen, you’ll already know how to handle it, so there’s no point in worrying about the second-worst thing that could happen.
Live a simpler life
This is one of my favorite happy life quotes. The older I get, the more I value living a simple life. If you need stuff to bring you joy then you’re looking for it in the wrong place.
Make your inner peace a priority
Give yourself time and space to unwind. Life shouldn’t be non-stop stress. We all deserve peace.
Do what’s right for YOU
Don’t let anyone else tell you what is right for you. They don’t know your full story any more than you know theirs.
Respect those who earn it
“Respect is not ever assigned; it’s earned.” ~ Linda Tripp
Respect those that earn it, earn respect from others. Pretty simple, right?
Don’t waste time being angry
It’s okay to be angry sometimes. You should never bottle up your feelings. But don’t spend so much time on it that you’re giving away hours of peace.
Find true friends and hold onto them
Making friends may not be the meaning of life, but good friends definitely give meaning to our lives! Just don’t waste time with fake friends. Find your people then keep your circle small and tight.
Work isn’t everything
We all need to work to survive, but surviving isn’t the same thing as living.
Ups and downs are important
If you never have any downs, you can’t really have ups. Kind of like how there’s no darkness without light, no good without bad. We need opposites to give meaning to the good stuff.
Be true to yourself
“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.” ― Kurt Vonnegut
Be yourself. If you spend your life pretending to be someone else, then you’ll become that fake version of yourself. Plus, no one will ever get to love you for who you really are.
Finish each day and be done with it…
This is one of my favorite deep quotes about life! Don’t let the problems of today drag you down tomorrow. Each morning is a fresh start and a chance to do better.
Take responsibility for your own life
If you constantly blame others for your mistakes, you’ll never learn from them.
Keep putting one foot in front of the other…
Some days life is all about your hopes and dreams and creating the perfect future. But there are other days when life is just about putting one foot in front of the other, and that’s OK too.
It’s okay if you have days where you’re just putting one foot in front of the other.
Some days, it’s enough to just keep going
Even days where just living is your greatest achievement of the day deserve celebrating.
Don’t live in your fears
Make your hopes- and not your fears- the true meaning of life for you.
Face your fears
“Having courage does not mean that we are unafraid. Having courage and showing courage mean we face our fears. We are able to say, ‘I have fallen, but I will get up.'” ~ Maya Angelou
Remember, courage isn’t about not being scared, it’s about doing something despite your fear.
Get up, show up, never give up
As long as you never give up, you’ll always have a new opportunity to live the life you want.
Life is about the journey, so enjoy it!
The true meaning of life isn’t about reaching a destination, it’s about the journey that you take to get there.
Don’t just exist, live!
No matter where your journey takes you, make sure you truly live!
The true meaning of life…
The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away. -Pablo Picasso
We all have a gift. What we choose to do with it is what matters.
Stop looking for the meaning of life and just LIVE life
I’ll end this with one of my favorite inspirational quotes that I use as my motto in life. Maybe we need to just stop trying to figure out why we’re here and just start making the most of the time that we have. THAT is the true meaning of life- to create our own destiny, to be our best selves, and to live a life free of regrets. If we focus on doing that, the how and why of it all doesn’t really matter.
one word says
Finding the true meaning of life is a journey, not a destination. It’s something you discover as you go, and it’s something that will change and evolve as you do. So don’t be afraid to experiment and take risks. And
